Pirates of the Caribbean

The Golden Age

At the start of the 15th Century AD piracy began to gain in popularity. Bigger, better and faster ships were being built and ships especially for the carrying gold and other goods were being created. With the competing interests and ambitionsa in colonial power Sailors were begining to find loop holes in the law against piracy and ways to legalise others. English Pirates could attack and rob Spanish shipping without being arrested, Sir Francis Drake, for example, was thought by the English people as a hero and a brilliant sailor whereas the Spanish population just saw him as a common pirate. From the 1500's to the 1800's the area's around the Ottoman Empire soon became centres for large groups of Pirates.
